SUMMARY- COURSE OVERVIEW -
The country road fringed with narcissus flowers meanders through terraced rice paddies and spectacular views of Northern Alps over the valley.
SEASON : mid-April to October
Starting from the Himekawa River, a solid clime continues through quaint village. Best visited during the month of April, just after the snow melts when yellow narcissus blossom along the road. White-capped Japan Alps in cystal blue sky can be seen on the way. An onsen lodge at the finish line is the hidden gem of the area: enjoy the alkali-rich hot spring that soothes the skin better than lotion.
COURSE PROFILE- COURSE MAP -
The starting point is just after crossing the bridge on the Himekawa River near the Kudarise crossing near R148.
At the beginning, the road continues zigzags with 7% grade steep uphill.
Once reached quaint village, the straight road continues with uphill. Northern Japan Alps can be seen behind.
After the tough uphill is gentle slope so you will have chance to recover your breath and enjoy the changing scenery.
Crossing the river means left with 1km to the finish. Keep your breathing steady and go.
Towards the peak is scarcely inhabited area tucked deep in the mountain.
The road just before the finish line is rough ground. Be careful!
Finish point is Buno Onsen lodge. In order not to cool your body by long downhill, it is advisable to come back afterwards by car for taking bath.
Following the farm road beyond Buno Onsen awaits even more splendid view but unfortunately the pavement is in poor condition and not for bike ride.
