Short but impressive climb.
A ride to see Mt. Amakazari, one of the 100 famous mountains in Japan!
SEASON : mid April to October
Start from Himekawa Onsen, located at the northernmost tip of Otari village, which is bordering with Niigata prefecture. Despite the short distance, you can enjoy rewarding climb. The finish is Oami settlement, which has magnificent view of Mt. Amakazari at its back, which is hard to imagine from the start. A walk through the farm village after the ride could be as satisfactory as the ride itself for its atmosphere remains unchanged for centuries.

Near the starting point along the Himekawa Valley, there are 2 onsen lodges and a bathhouse that make you feel nostalgic Showa era.

After a steep climb Oami settlement gradually appears with Mt. Amakazari protruding at the back. It is no higher than 2,000m from the sea level; due to its deep snow coverage it boasts abundant alpine vegetation.

SEASONChikuni Kaido -
The finish is Outward Bound Japan’s Nagano school. The building was former elementary school. Feeling as if slip back in time, the appearance of good old Japan remains.
